Before you sign it

Shap’t

Contracts can be confusing.
Shap’t makes them less so.

Upload a contract or legal document and get a clear, plain-language breakdown of what it says, what matters, and what might deserve a second look. Or create your own contract from scratch. No law degree required.

Your legal chommie, right in your pocket.

A tablet showing a Service Agreement, with Shap’t callouts explaining that the other party can cancel with 7 days’ notice while you must give 30, and that you pay double if you cancel after 3 months.

You’re handed
a contract.
It’s 46 pages long.

There’s a lot of “hereinafter”, “notwithstanding” and “subject to clause 14.3.2”.

So… you skim it.

You tell yourself it’s probably standard.

And then you sign.

Because Eish… Not everybody has a lawyer chommie in their back pocket.

Legalese everywhere

You shouldn’t need to Google every second sentence just to understand what you’ve agreed to.

The important bits hide

Cancellation terms. Liability. Payment conditions. IP ownership. The things that matter aren’t always the things that stand out.

Legal help can get expensive

Sometimes you need a lawyer. Sometimes you just need someone to explain what the document actually says first.

Okay, so what does Shap’t actually do?

Legal language in. Human language out.

Shap’t helps you understand and sort out the nitty gritties of legal documents. Whether you need to understand your life insurance policy or you need to draft a contract to protect your freelance business.

No
funny
business.

We’re here to help you understand the law. Not pretend we are the law.

Shap’t is an AI legal companion, not a law firm and not a replacement for a qualified legal professional. That distinction matters.

We explain. You decide.

Shap’t helps you understand documents and identify things worth considering. It doesn’t make the decision for you.

We know when to call the grown-ups.

Some legal matters are too important or complicated for an AI tool. When something needs professional legal attention, Shap’t should tell you that clearly. No pretending. No guessing.

Your documents are your business.

Contracts can contain personal, commercial and financial information. Privacy and responsible handling of that information is built into the experience from day one.

Made with South Africans in mind.

Shap’t is built around the everyday legal situations South African freelancers, businesses and individuals actually deal with. Not just another generic international contract tool with a flag slapped on it.

Made for people doing the things.

Not everyone has a legal department. Or a lawyer chommie in their back pocket. That’s where Shap’t comes in.

Freelancers &
creatives

You’ve landed the client. Lekker. Now make sure the agreement covers your payment, deliverables, revisions, cancellation terms and ownership properly.

Small businesses
& start-ups

Supplier agreement? NDA? Contractor paperwork? Understand what lands on your desk before committing the business to it.

Independent
contractors

Know exactly what you’re responsible for, how you’ll be paid and what happens if things go sideways.

Everyday
South Africans

Employment contracts. Lease agreements. Service agreements. If somebody wants your signature, you deserve to understand why.

Lawyers
are still
important.

Shap’t just helps you know when you actually need one.

Not every document needs hours of professional consultation.

But every document deserves to be understood.

Shap’t gives you a useful first step:

Understand it. Question it. Then decide what to do.

A few things you’re probably wondering.

Is Shap’t a lawyer?
Nope. Shap’t is an AI legal companion designed to help you understand legal documents and create basic agreements. It does not provide formal legal representation or replace professional legal advice.
Can Shap’t tell me whether I should sign something?
Shap’t can explain what the document says, highlight areas worth considering and suggest questions you might want to ask. The final decision is yours.
What kinds of documents can I upload?
Shap’t is designed for common agreements such as freelance contracts, service agreements, NDAs, supplier contracts, contractor agreements and other everyday legal documents.
Can Shap’t write contracts too?
Ja. For supported documents, Shap’t can guide you through a simple series of questions and use your answers to help build a basic agreement.
What happens if my document is complicated?
Then Shap’t should say so. If something requires professional legal interpretation or specialist advice, we’ll encourage you to speak to a qualified lawyer. That’s a feature, not a failure.
Do I need to understand legal terminology?
Definitely not. That would rather defeat the point.
